book editing and translation services

Editorial

Beta reading

For early-stage manuscripts, fiction and nonfiction.

What I focus on:
I read your manuscript the way a real reader would, prioritizing plot, pacing, character consistency, and whether the story works from beginning to end. (I don’t check spelling or grammar in detail in this service; that falls under copyediting/proofreading.)

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Pacing and narrative structure
– Character consistency and development
– Plot points that confuse or don’t resolve
– First impressions as a reader (does it hook? where does interest drop?)
– Line-by-line spelling or grammar correction
– Rewriting of passages

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~25,0007 days
~50,00010 days
~80,00021 days

What you receive:
A detailed reading report (a separate document, not annotations on the manuscript) with my observations on plot, characters, and pacing, plus general recommendations on what to strengthen before moving on to formal editing.

Developmental editing

For manuscripts in development that need structural work, from first drafts to versions that have taken shape but still don’t quite work.

What I focus on:
This is the deepest work I offer: I review how the whole story is built, not individual sentences. Plot, pacing, characters, overall coherence: everything that makes a manuscript work (or not) as a whole.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Complete narrative structure (beginning, development, climax, resolution)
– Character development and arcs
– Pacing: where the story speeds up or stalls
– Coherence of the plot and its subplots
– Point of view and narrative voice
– Detailed spelling or grammar correction (that comes later, in copyediting/proofreading)
– Rewriting the manuscript myself: I give you the guidance, and you decide how to implement it

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~25,00010 days
~50,00015 days
~80,00030 days

What you receive:
An extensive editorial report (separate document) with a detailed analysis of structure, characters, and pacing, plus the manuscript with targeted comments on the most relevant sections.

Copyediting

For manuscripts that are already structured and need polishing at the level of language and consistency (usually after developmental editing, before proofreading).

What I focus on:
I work through the prose line by line (how it sounds, whether it flows, whether it’s consistent) without touching the plot or the overall structure. The goal is for the text to read naturally while keeping your voice as an author.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
– Sentence clarity and flow
– Consistency of tone and voice throughout the text
– Unnecessary repetition and confusing phrasing
– Terminology consistency (names, places, recurring terms)
– Changes to narrative structure or plot
– Character development
– Exhaustive last-pass typographic review (that’s proofreading)

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~25,00010 days
~50,00014 days
~80,00021 days

What you receive:
The manuscript with tracked changes (track changes / comments), plus a brief summary of recurring patterns I noticed (for example, filler words or writing habits to watch out for).

Proofreading

For manuscripts in their final version, right before publication (after developmental editing and copyediting).

What I focus on:
This is the last review before the text goes out into the world. I read line by line looking for errors that slipped through earlier stages. I don’t touch structure or narrative style, just the final polish.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Spelling and punctuation
– Typographical errors
– Formatting consistency (capitalization, italics, numbering, etc.)
– Consistency of names, dates, and minor details throughout the text
– Changes to structure or plot
– Rewriting of sentences or paragraphs
– Review of narrative style or voice

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~25,0005 days
~50,0008 days
~80,00018 days

Qué recibes al finalizar:
El manuscrito con correcciones marcadas directamente (control de cambios / comentarios), listo para su versión de publicación final.

Complete editorial package

For full manuscripts looking to go from first draft to publication-ready, with a single point of contact throughout the process.

What I focus on:
I combine the four editorial services (beta reading, developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading) into one continuous process, divided into stages with scheduled deliveries. Instead of hiring each service separately, your manuscript goes through all four phases in an orderly way, and you receive concrete progress at the end of each one.

StageWhat it includesWhat you receive
1. Beta readingA full read focused on plot, pacing, and characters.Detailed reading report.
2. Developmental editingStructural work based on the findings from stage 1.Editorial report + manuscript with comments.
3. CopyeditingPolishing of prose, tone, and consistency.Manuscript with tracked changes.
4. ProofreadingFinal line-by-line review.Publication-ready manuscript.

Between stages, you have time to review my feedback and implement changes before I move on to the next phase. The manuscript I review in stage 2 already reflects your revisions after stage 1, and so on.

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~25,00025 days
~50,00040 days
~80,00075 days

These times cover editing work only. They don’t include the time you need between stages to implement changes before I move on to the next phase.

What you receive:
A manuscript that has gone through all four stages of professional review, plus the four reports/documents from each phase. In other words, not just the final result, but the complete record of how it got there.

Advantage of hiring it this way vs. separately:
One agreement, one point of contact, and continuity: you don’t have to re-explain the manuscript or its context at every stage, because I’ve known it since the first read.

Literary translation

For complete manuscripts and books, both fiction and nonfiction, that call for a translation that preserves the original author’s voice and intent.

What I focus on:
I translate your complete manuscript, making sure the result feels like a work originally written in the target language, not a word-for-word translation. I take care with the author’s tone, narrative rhythm, and stylistic choices, adapting idiomatic expressions and cultural references when needed.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Complete translation of the manuscript (Spanish-English / English-Spanish)
– Adaptation of idiomatic expressions and cultural references
– Preservation of the author’s tone and narrative voice
– Consistency of names, terms, and style across the entire work
– Developmental editing or copyediting of the source text before translation (if your manuscript still needs this, I recommend doing it first in the original language)
– Design or layout of the final version

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~30,00010 days
~50,00020 days
~80,00030 days

What you receive:
The complete translated manuscript, ready for your next stage (editing, proofreading, or direct publication), plus notes on relevant translation decisions in complex or culturally specific passages.

Technical content and localization

Software and app localization

Best for: SaaS companies, mobile apps, digital platforms, and software products that need to feel native in Spanish or English.

What I focus on:
It’s not just translating words; it’s adapting the full user experience: interface, error messages, notifications, help text, and microcopy, so that they feel natural in the target language while respecting your brand’s tone.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Translation and adaptation of the interface (UI)
– System messages, errors, and notifications
– Microcopy and help text
– Review of terminology consistency within the product
– Technical development or implementation of code
– Interface design

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time

For urgent projects, I can work at a faster pace for an additional express-delivery fee, subject to availability and advance notice.

What you receive:
Localized text ready to implement, organized according to the structure you share with me (strings file, spreadsheet, etc.), plus notes on relevant adaptation decisions.

Technical translation

Best for: Manuals, product documentation, technical articles, user guides, and web content for companies.

What I focus on:
I translate technical content prioritizing accuracy and clarity, including research into specialized terminology when the project requires it, so the result is correct and sounds natural, not literal or forced.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Spanish-English / English-Spanish translation
– Research and verification of specialized terminology
– Terminology consistency throughout the document
– Format adaptation according to the original document
– Design or layout of the final document
– Translation of creative/advertising content (that’s marketing, a separate service)

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~5,0002 days
~15,0005 days
~30,00010 days

For urgent projects, I can work at a faster pace for an additional express-delivery fee, subject to availability and advance notice.

What you receive:
The complete translated document, in the same format you shared with me (Word, editable PDF, spreadsheet, etc.), ready to publish or distribute.

Marketing and social media translation

Best for: Landing pages, ad campaigns, product copy, social media posts, and newsletters.

What I focus on:
This service goes beyond literal translation: I adapt the message so it creates the same impact and emotional connection in the target language, taking care with brand tone, wordplay, and cultural references that don’t always translate the same way.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Creative adaptation of the message (light transcreation)
– Tone adjustment to match your brand voice
– Adaptation of cultural references or idiomatic expressions
– Check that the message keeps its original intent (persuasion, humor, urgency, etc.)
– Graphic design or content layout
– Marketing strategy or copywriting from scratch (I work from existing text)

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~2,5001 days
~5,0002 days
~10,0005 days

For urgent projects, I can work at a faster pace for an additional express-delivery fee, subject to availability and advance notice.

What you receive:
The adapted content, ready to publish, plus brief notes on relevant creative decisions (for example, if a pun was replaced with an equivalent one in the target language).

Post-editing and web proofreading

Best for: Web content, corporate blogs, and documentation that has already been translated, whether the source was a machine/AI translation tool or a human translator.

What I focus on:
I review content that has already gone through a first translation process to fix problems with naturalness, tone, and accuracy. This service has become much more relevant with the rise of AI translations, which tend to sound literal or lose nuance, but the reality is that I’ve also come across human translations with serious errors. Regardless of the source, my job is to make sure the final result sounds natural, accurate, and professional.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Correction of literalness and phrases that “sound translated”
– Adjustment of tone and naturalness of language
– Accuracy check (that meaning hasn’t been lost or distorted)
– Correction of grammar and punctuation errors
– Translation from scratch (if the content has no previous version, that’s technical translation)
– Complete rewriting of the content (if it needs deep structural changes, it’s better to quote it as a new project)

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~6,0002 days
~12,0004 days
~30,0008 days

For urgent projects, I can work at a faster pace for an additional express-delivery fee, subject to availability and advance notice.

What you receive:
The reviewed and corrected content, ready to publish, plus a brief summary of the most common error patterns I found.

Linguistic QA (quality audit)

Best for: Already translated content that needs an independent quality review, useful before an important launch or to check another translator’s or vendor’s work.

What I focus on:
It’s a quick, focused audit: I review already translated content looking for terminology errors, inconsistencies, tone issues, and possible cultural misunderstandings, without rewriting the whole text, instead pointing out specifically what needs to be corrected.

IncludesDoesn’t include
– Terminology check (consistent with your glossary or style guide, if you have one)
– Detection of tone or register errors
– Identification of cultural or contextual problems
– Report of findings with specific examples
– Direct line-by-line correction of the text (that’s post-editing/proofreading)
– Translation of missing content

Delivery times:

WordsEstimated time
~7,0002 days
~15,0005 days
~30,0008 days

For urgent projects, I can work at a faster pace for an additional express-delivery fee, subject to availability and advance notice.

What you receive:
An audit report with the errors or inconsistencies found, organized by type and with concrete examples, useful both for fixing the current content and for preventing the same errors in the future.
